Emilia realizes that she loves Wrath and decides to complete their marriage bond. At this point, it is also revealed that Wrath's true name is Samael, and that he is the true King of the Wicked and the devil. A curse that keeps him from telling anyone, even Emilia, the truth. Wrath keeps many secrets from her, just as Emilia does him, and it's not revealed until nearly the end of the book that this is because he is physically unable to speak of some things. Pride, however, does not accept, and instead traps Wrath and Emilia into moving one step closer to completing their marriage bond. It's something he is willing to do for her despite the great cost to himself. He uses his prize to save Emilia from sacrificing her biggest fear by offering to sacrifice a secret of his heart. Out of all of his brothers, Wrath seems to be the most cordial with Lust, and the least with Greed. During the Feast of the Wolf at House Gluttony, Wrath is pulled away by Lust for a secret conversation. During this time, his and Emilia's relationship further develops, but the two of them never cross the line of consummating their marriage. Emilia is traumatized and furious at what he made her do. At one of their training sessions, Wrath forces Emilia to feel vengeance and makes her stab him repeatedly. Wrath trains Emilia in building an affinity against the powers of him and his brothers, helping her to identify the Wicked's influences and be able to withstand them. Later, Emilia forces a confession out of him, Pride is not her husband to be, and instead it is Wrath. The frigid weather of the Sin Corridor causes Emilia to develop hypothermia, and Wrath nurses he back to health at his House. He warns her the Sin Corridor will poke at her mind and influence her emotions in order to test her House affinity. Wrath tells Emilia they must travel through the Sin Corridor in order to reach the Seven Circles. In reality, her vow negates her contract and binds her to Wrath instead. She believes this is inconsequential, as she she believes she has already signed herself to the devil. Once reaching Hell, Wrath goads Emilia into pledging herself to the devil. At this point, Emilia believes she has sold her soul and her hand in marriage to Pride. Wrath then uses transvenio to bring her to the Wicked Kingdom. Wrath gives her the contract that signs away her soul, and Emilia signs it in her blood. After Emilia accepts being the witch bride Pride seeks, she meets Wrath in the cave by the ocean where she originally summoned him. Wrath betrays Emilia in the end, when it is revealed that he "needed one more soul" to take back to Hell. They discover that the murderer was Antonio, who was being used by someone claiming to be an "angel" with a mission for him. As Wrath and Emilia prepare to determine if anyone tried summoning Pride in the monastery, he tells her that he was tasting Vittoria’s blood to test it for any hints of a demon House she may have aligned herself with, and Vittoria hadn’t. He and Emilia then work together to find the culprit, and along the way, are introduced to a number of his brothers, including Greed, Envy, and Lust, as well as one of the members of Wrath's House, Anir. He claims he is searching for a bride for his brother Pride, and that their interests align in that they both need the witches alive. He forms something of an alliance with Emilia. When Wrath gets out, it's just in time to save her from dying of a bite from the Viperidae. During this time, Emilia continues trying to solve the mystery of her sister's murder. Wrath remains trapped in the protection circle for three days. It will also allow him to sense when she's in danger. He tells her it will alert other demons that she is a temporary member of House Wrath and thus under his protection. He wants Emilia to form a blood bond with him. Wrath is first introduced when Emilia performs a spell to summon a demon to help her break the dark magic that sealed Vittoria's diary. The Horn of Hades, which Emilia and Vittoria had been wearing as their amulets, was actually his wings which the First Witch cursed and hid from him. It's revealed in Kingdom of the Cursed that this was the repercussion of him refusing to help her. Like his six brothers, Wrath was cursed by the First Witch. In Kingdom of the Wicked, Emilia unwittingly calls him Samael after a Roman prince and the angel of death, not knowing that Wrath is Samael. His relationship with his brothers seems to be strenuous at best. In the Kingdom of the Cursed, he is revealed to be the king of the Seven Circles. Like his brothers, Wrath is one of the Wicked, or Malvagi.
